[EnergyPlus_Support] Importing Windows from Window 5 (see Input-Output Reference, p. 284)

Hi All,

I am looking for clarification regarding the EnergyPlus report (that can be exported from Window 5) and its angular-dependent properties.

On page 284 of the IO Reference it describes method (c):

" c) import WINDOW 5 report containing layer-by-layer calculated values and overall glazing system angular values.

Note: When using method c, the overall glazing system angular dependent properties, including Tsol, Abs, Rfsol, Rbsol, Tvis, Rfvis, and Rbvis, are not used by EnergyPlus. Therefore, methods a and b are recommended..."

Question 1: Does this mean that in say, the EnergyPlus report example on p. 287, the angular-dependent numbers in the last 17 rows are NOT used? These numbers are in bold which according to p.286 means they are used. If they are not used, why are they included in the E+ report?

Question 2: If only normal-incidence optical properties are used by E+ (first column), does this mean that windows modeled this way have their annual solar heat gain over-estimated? Or, does E+ apply its own angle-dependence curves to reconstruct what was in the original Window 5 report? If it does the latter, which curves does it use and how does it know whether the glass is clear or coated? (Different curves are used for clear vs. coated glass in Window 5).

Thanks for any insight.
