RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Insulation of external solar shading

If you look in input/output page 297 it specifies the object Movable insulation shall not be used in sub-surfaces as windows.

For that purpose window shading control can be used.

I don’t know if it fits correctly or similar than the average U night and day used in French regulation.

Asunto: [EnergyPlus_Support] Insulation of external solar shading

Hi,

One of my colleague asked me if E+ takes into account the added insulation of a closed external solar shading (at night in winter especially). Indeed, the french energy efficiency standard defines a Ujn (namely U factor day and night), mainly to take into account that when you close the solar shading and that it creates an enclosed space between it and the window, the overall U value is somewhat a bit lower.

Although I personnally think the effect is small, it made me curious. It seems the object AdvancedSurface:MovableInsulation doesn't fit this use. And I didn't find any thermal balance equation related to external solar shadings in the engineering reference. So, so far, it seems to me this particular parameter is not taken into account in the software.

Has someone a different opinion?

Thanks a million for your advises!
Aymeric
