[EnergyPlus_Support] Re: Insulation of external solar shading

Sorry but I just thought again about what you say:
the reason why I posted this question is that I didn't find in the engineering reference the full thermal balance of the glazing system including the shade for the configuration of an external shade. there are such descriptions for internal and mid-pane shadings...

so I deduced that in the case of an external shading it wasn't done the same way...

Any opinion on this?

thanks
Aymeric

Exterior window shades, described by WindowMaterial:Shade, are included in the Construction assembly that is applied to the fenestration when the shade is deployed. The shade becomes a full fledged glazing layer in the detailed layer-by-layer modeling of glazing systems (based on WINDOW5 and ISO15099) and is completely modeled in terms of its optical and thermal impacts.

Indeed, the french energy efficiency standard defines a Ujn (namely U factor day and night), mainly to take into account that when you close the solar shading and that it creates an enclosed space between it and the window, the overall U value is somewhat a bit lower.

And I didn't find any thermal balance equation related to external solar shadings in the engineering reference. So, so far, it seems to me this particular parameter is not taken into account in the software.
