Triangulation may happen in EPlus DXF as well, when the surface is not flat in one plane, and the triangulation option is chosen. The cause may be a simple rounding off error, or conversion of integer of fixed format into floating point numbers. For example, 5.000000 and 4.999999 can be generated by the software at some point, say for the ceiling height. When the data is fed to the system again, the four numbers are not equal. This may trigger a triangulation for the ceiling plane. Whenever you see long decimal points for the vertices, there is a chance of this triangulation happening. If the number is entered as 5.0 instead of 5 (without a decimal point), there is less chance of generating the conversion difference. 0 should be enter as 0.0 as well, if it is a required floating point number. I never get this kind of error with the older version of OpenStudio. Right now, I am using the latest version 6.0, it will split a rectangle zone into some triangle zones when you re-open the skechup file or idf file. It usually happens when the number of zones exceeds 20. Any ideas?
