Output reporting does not have to be hourly.  Can be the timestep, monthly, daily, etc.

Also, you should look at the tabular reporting, especially the Time bins report.

Read through the sections titled "Output" and "Standard Reports" in the Input Output Reference.

Since the EnergyPlus output is hourly, it requires significant manipulation to sort out all of the numbers and match to the ASHRAE bin.  It is doubly difficult if I want to obtain results for day vs night and weekend vs weekday.
 
Am I overlooking an output set up that would help to make this part easier / quicker?
