Robin,

The picture that you have attached looks to me like a double skin glazed façade that is fully sealed during the day. Such type of façade should provide additional thermal insulation during the day and should be good for heating dominated climate.

I’m not sure, if there would be significant benefit from transferring the small amount of warmer air from the cavity into the room, in the evening.

I have not simulated doubles skin façade by myself but it has been simulated using EnergyPlus. In article ‘Investigation on energy performance of double skin facade in Hong Kong’ by A.L.S. Chan , T.T. Chow, K.F. Fong, Z. Lin, is a brief description how the double skin façade was simulated (dividing cavity into zones and using airflow network) (Energy and Buildings 41 (2009) 1135–1142).

If you have access to Tas software it might be more easier to use for your simulation -

Hope it get you closer to the solution.

Hello
I attached a picture in the "_Problem_Submittals" folder under the name of GreenHouseEffect.zip
I got one a zone with two windows in the south side.
In the exterior side of that windows, the architect design a greenHouse like extension that in the winter time, its south window will be closed and will hoard heat throughout the day and in the evening time the tenant will open the bottom glider window and the upper (bottom pivot window) window for a short time.
The hot air will be pushed into the zone by the cold air that enter from the bottom window.
My question is what is the best way to check the effect in Energy plus?
Do I create a different zone for the greenhouse?
How do I open the window between two zones?
And is that even possible to saw the effect in Energy Plus?

Thank you
