That field in the Branch object does not need to be used for Plant loops. It is nearly completely disregarded, with the exception of optionally being used in sizing the flow rates of connections to water heater thermal tanks.

Branch flow sizes are generally set by the components on the branch. If they have Autosize capability it will carry over to the Branch.
