James, Thank you.  I think I may make my deadline now.

Dear Carla,

1.       Monthly gas and electricity use is reported (for the whole building) by using these objects:

Output:Meter,

    Electricity:Facility,    !- Name

    Monthly;                  !- Reporting Frequency

Output:Meter,

    Gas:Facility,            !- Name

    Monthly;                  !- Reporting Frequency

2.       Metering objects are listed in the .mdd file that is created when E+ completes a run.  Also see the .mtd file to see what individual items are included in each meter.

Thanks James.  I have a couple questions.  1)How can I get monthly electrical and gas consumption without metering the system objects?  2)where might I get a list of all possible metering objects for my file?

Thanks, Carla

Dear Carla,

Graphing is a â??post processâ?? for EnergyPlus, not something available as a â??built inâ?? function.

You can use â??OpenStudio Results Viewerâ?? (http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/energyplus/resultsviewer.cfm) , xESOView (http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/energyplus/other_tools.cfm) or Excel as a good choices for graphing.

Also, I recommend that you use an â??.rviâ?? file so that your variables are always created in the same order.

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] output visual graphs

Good day.  I have just about completed my first Eplus analysis of a 80,000 sf 3 story building with 2 HVAC systems.  Two other colleagues of mine are doing parellel analyses in TRNSYS and EQuest, of the same building.

I have seen a TRNSYS working graph of loads that is visible as iterations are being done.  Thus far, I am happy to get results in tabular form; however, I may be missing the graphical potential of this software, besides the open studio front end.  I would like to have monthly consumption laid over demands eventually of billing statements.  If i can output graphs it would be impressive to those who want to see what E+ can do, including me.  I will be giving a presentation and so far do not have visuals of my output.  I am ready to make them in excel, but thought I'd ask the user experts first.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Carla
