[EnergyPlus_Support] Re: How to transfer a Sketchup Draw in an Open Studio Model

As others have suggested, you can't just automatically convert an architectural model to an EnergyPlus model, however you can pretty effectively trace 2d or 3d models. While it takes some time to do this, as the architectural model is updated over time, you can import it into SketchUp, via OpenStudio, and adjust the EnergyPlus model for any changes made int he architectural model.

Here are links to tutorials on converting 2d and 3d models into OpenStudio.

One of the problems of automatically converting the model to EnergyPlus is that the geometry in the architectural model is likely not grouped by thermal zones and may have other issues such as thick walls and highly complex geometry. If the SketchUp geometry is exactly what you want for your heat transfer surfaces then you can copy that geometry, make a new zone, and then paste in place. There will be some cleanup work to re-classify fenestration surfaces (something we hope to fix in next release).

We are working on a number of tools that will automate certain aspects of this process.
