RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Loads Initialization problem

The error file seems to confirm all you have mentioned in the mail below.

The zone temperature keep rixing until the temperature reached the 200°C limit and stopped during the warming up of the SummerDesignDay run.

As you only have five zones for such a large three storey plus basement building, I have no idea how the system is designed, as I have not look at the details yet.  Only the Basement garage zone seems to be controlled at the begining, and other other zones are slaved.

As there so many error warnings are pointing to the bulding dimensions, I have no idea whare is the real problem.  I would substitude the 5Zone example building and see what happens. (Simply changing the space1-1. etc. to your building zone names.)

You may not be able to do that in DesignBuildinger.

Dear  Richard and Dr Li,

Thank you for your advices for my problem. i was trying to find out what is the problem in my model according to your writings, sorry for replying late. I reported to see the zone temperatures. And noticed that the temperature of each zones are increasingly changing during all the week simulation period and arriving more then 100 *C, it seems that the thermostats are not working / or the HVAC settings are not done properly.

I?ve attach here the IDF file, maybe it can guide you to see what is wrong in my HVAC settings.

Thank you in advance for your support,

Rahsan

======================================================================

The following error categories occurred.  Consider correcting or noting.

=======Interzone surfaces - different zones

Loads Initialization did not Converge

1) very high thermal mass such as very thick concrete (solution: increase max number of warmup days in the BUILDING object);

2) moderate mass and inadequate space conditioning such that the building keeps getting warmer and warmer on successive days (solution: add HVAC, check building thermal properties,  check if infiltration is included, make sure HVAC properly controlled);

3) a soil layer modeled below the concrete slab - (solution remove this layer and read about ground temperatures in the Auxiliary Programs document).

4) unreasonable (too small) limits in the BUILDING object for temperature (.4 default) or  loads tolerances (.04 default)

Richard.

I noticed that many people are using one day weather file for sizing run, and using one day weather file run period simulation.

May be you  should add a warning that DesignDay sizing is preferred.  All the other mode of sizing and simulation should be reserved for advanced users who have read the manual.

Not sure if this is good or bad without more information. This is just an initialization step and does not necessarily mean the simulation results would be wrong. It just means that the program could not find a starting point that was repeatable. So is the temperatures in your simulation oscillating around some point, or do they continually change for each warmup day?

You can report zone temps (Output:Variable,*,Zone Mean Air Temperature,hourly;) and then turn on the reporting during warmup (Output:Diagnostics,ReportDuringWarmup) to see the zone temps as the program sees them.

Plot these for each day to see how they change during the warmup period. Also notice you are getting nearly the same loads (within 0.03 Watts), but these loads just don't happen at the same zone temperatures.

Dear All

I have problem with simulating my idf file. I was able to solve most of the errors untill 1 only one error remaining. Altough I increased the warm up days to 30 and more but still couldnt get a result.

Do you have any idea how i can solve this initialization problem?
Thank you very much
Rahsan
