A normal mercury switch thermostat has two contacts. One side is for heating and the other side for cooling. There is a slight temperature change required to tip it from one position to the other.
You need a switch to select which one to use. (heating or cooling) This is type 1 and type 2. You have to make sure that the schedule is seasonal controlled and the boiler and chiller are also make available. Type 3 allows you to use one setpoint for both heating and cooling. It has set back, but does not have a dead band. Heating and cooling should be seasonal controlled. One setpoint schedule can be used for both heating and cooling. (cf. page 1339 I/O manual.) Type 4 Dual setpoint with dead band. The heating/cooling can be on all the year. Heating setpoints must not be higher than the cooling setpoint values. (The two bands must not cross each other.) In the dead band range, neither the heating nor cooling would be on. However, if you have high internal load, the interior temperature in WINTER without heating may be higher than the cooling setpoint. You then have cooling in Winter, and should use the outddor air instead. In ZoneControl:Thermostat, the valid Control Types are Uncontrolled, Single Heating Setpoint, Single Cooling Setpoint, Single Heating/Cooling Setpoint and Dual Setpoint (Heating and Cooling) with deadband.
The first question is: what is the differences between Single Heating Setpoint and Single Cooling Setpoint with Single Heating/Cooling Setpoint? The second question is: what is the meaning of deadband in Dual Setpoint with deadband? Thank you for your attention Sincerely yours, Malindo Mech.
