[EnergyPlus_Support] how does E+ calculate the building total floor area?

Dear all,
Can anyone here explain a little about how E+ calculates a building's total floor area in the output report? I tried to search its definition in the I/O reference, but I can't find it.

My understanding is that it accounts for the floor area enclosed by internal surfaces,so it should exclude areas occupied by internal partitions, exterial walls and any vertical penetrations, such as elevator shaft. As a result, this number would be different with the building gross floor area defined in ASHRAE Standard 105, and Standard Definitions of Building Geometry for Energy Evaluation released by NREL.

Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance.
