Dear Ric,
You don't need to model each VAV box as a separate zone. I had similar question in the past when simulating FCU system. You will find it almost impossible to model so many zones, neither the zoning input work nor the simulation running time of computer. So five zones method is enough.

Hi,I'm modelling an office building for 90.1 Apendix G. Im a bit stuck with how much detail I have to model since the building is quite big. Do I need to zone the open plan office by dividing it into zones for each VAV box? Or can I just make one core zone, 4 perimeter zones (one for each orientation), plus one zone for combining unheated spaces (elevators, stairs, etc)?ThanksRic.
