1) what does it say when you try to use it?

2) just do the defines and then just do the include once?

e.g.

(includesilent won't make the full file show up in the .epmdet file --
though you may want that for debugging)

not sure about the ifs/elseifs
or use the if def structure as Rich has shown

look in the epmdet file to see context of errors.

epmidf has the file that energyplus will actually see.
