RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Annual Peak cooling variable ?

As you use 60 as timestep for simulation, all the variable will reported in one minute interval.  If you asked for hourly result, of cource, the value must be avaraged.  I have mentioned to you many times, that I do not use averaged daily, monthly and annual result.

If you add the names listed below in the IDF, all of them will be in the .ESO file as hourly averaged.  Only when you have more than 250 columns, then you need to change the 250 to no limit and then use .rvi file to customize the .csv file.

Add two more rows at the bottom of the spread sheed and fill them with formula to extract max. and min. from all the data above.

End of your task.

I do not think that your 1000 odd parameter simulation data mean anything, if you to not have a linked optimization rules.  The peak cooling load cannot be reduced by simulation. The value itself does not mean anything.   You need to determine what is the source causing the maximum, it it is not the weather condition.

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] Annual Peak cooling variable ?

Hello,
I have a parametric study of 1020 simulation "jobs" and with the objective function of minimizing peak cooling load.  I have experimented with the bullet pointed output variables below but all have provided average numbers rather then maximum. I have read the documentation and checked old posts but do not see any way to output to a variable or meter the annual maximum sensible cooling load. Does anyone have a solution for this? I seem to remember there being a way to create custom output values, but did not find anything in documentation.  I would think the peak cooling load would be useful for modelers/designers to be able to run many iterations to solve the lowest equipment size problem and am surprised that there is not an easy to do this- Possibly there should be a new feature added to Energy Plus that is for reporting called "maximum" ("minimum" would also do just fine, but "average" is not very useful for this)

  • Output:Variable,*,Zone/Sys Sensible Cooling Rate, !- HVAC Average [W]
  • Output:Variable,*,Zone/Sys Sensible Load Predicted, !- HVAC Average [W]
  • Output:Variable,*,Ideal Loads Heat Recovery Sensible Cooling Rate, !- HVAC Average [W]
  • Output:Variable,*,Ideal Loads Total Cooling Rate, !- HVAC Average [W]
  • Output:Variable,*,Ideal Loads Zone Total Cooling Rate, !- HVAC Average [W]
  • Output:Variable,*,Ideal Loads Zone Sensible Cooling Rate, !- HVAC Average [W]
  • Output:Variable,*,Total HVAC Electric Demand, !- HVAC Average [W]
  • Output:Variable,*,Total Building Electric Demand, !- HVAC Average [W]
  • Output:Variable,*,Total Electric Demand, !- HVAC Average [W]
  • Output:Variable,*,Zone Total Internal Total Heat Gain Rate, !- Zone Average [W]
  • Output:Variable,*,Zone Air Balance Air Energy Storage Rate, !- HVAC Average [W]
Attached is a results file with the issue of average not correlating to peak (minimum peak is in green)
