What version are you running?  What platform?

There is not that much calculation that takes place between
Initializing Outdoor environment for Surfaces
and
Initializing Temperature and Flux Histories -- the next message

mostly array allocations -- so unless you are beating up against virtual
memory paging, it shouldn't take that long.

Perhaps you should consult the helpdesk.
