You may want to move to 7.2 version (Design Builder later
version already supports that).  But I still have no idea why that
code would slow down.

What version are you running?  What platform?

There is not that much calculation that takes place between

Initializing Outdoor environment for Surfaces

and

Initializing Temperature and Flux Histories -- the next message

mostly array allocations -- so unless you are beating up against virtual memory paging, it shouldn't take that long.

Perhaps you should consult the helpdesk.
