[EnergyPlus_Support] Information needed on outputs for energyPlus - for beginners



Hi

I have some queries related to E+ output files. I started learning E+ by myself by looking at example files and reading documentation. I still find it difficult to understand about some of the stuff through documentation and I need to look for some direct feedback from people who are PRO in it. Please pardon me my ignorance but here are some of the doubts that I need to clarify:

1. What's the purpose of MTR and MTD file? I understood that it gives figures for particular output we ask during "outputvariable:meterfileonly" but how do I read it. MTD is somewhat descriptive file for each and every zone. Both of files open in Notepad and I am not able to understand what to do with these files. Do I need to open it in some other interface or am I missing something else? 

2. I have some issues with shaded surface and for that I want to debug SHD file which also opens in notepad. But it is a file with around 16,000 rows (project is a commercial one with 24,000 sqft of area) and I am not able to play around with it to see what the issues that I can rectify are?

3. What's the purpose of AUDIT file? I read documentation but it doesn't judge what I need to know. 

4. My SVG opens in Opera browser and I can't zoom in after a certain extent which makes the details very tiny to view. Is there any other way to open it? Also if I need to see the details of nodes-branches-splitters-mixers in a descriptive diagram, is there any possible way? Or am I very demanding here?

5. Whats the difference between "output:meter" & "output:meter:meterfileonly"?? How does it differ with each other and what's the purpose of both of them? If they are MTD or MTR related, how can I use it?

6. My "outputcontrol:table:style" is HTML and whenever I view this tabular report, it opens in opera browser (my settings) which shows all the report which I ask in "output:table:summaryreport". Also, I followed some examples which asks for some more outputs at "output:variable" where it asks for four variables ? 1. Key value (* is used in all examples, whats this?) 2. Variable name (eg, site outdoor drybulb temp),  3. Frequency and 4. Schedule. Where can I see these outputs? I didn't find them in any excel sheet (or again I am missing something here) and HTML tables. 

7. To view the unused schedules and materials, I opt for option "displayextrawarnings" in "output:diagnostics". Where can I see the output?
