[EnergyPlus_Support] Re: Internal Partitions do not participate in blocking solar radiation?
Attached is a portion of the plot for the west wall.

Dear All,
I am testing the placement of PCM in specific locations inside a room. So in that process I am placing partitions in front of a particular wall (equipped with PCM) to test to see is it is the direct beam solar radiation that is melting the PCM as opposed to conduction + convection effects. Now in that process I developed a 35' X 35' building and placed an interior partition (with boundary condition set to adiabatic) through the center of the room and then placed an additional partition dividing the room in 4 cubicles. So now I have 3.idf files.
a) No Partition
b) With 1 partition
c) With 2 partitions
The output I requested was "Surface
Inside Face Exterior Windows Incident Beam Solar
Radiation Rate per Area [W/m2]" for each wall. Now when I plot the results for say west wall 1 (i.e a portion of west wall) I get this:
All the cases receive the same amount of beam solar radiation through the windows. Shouldnt the interior partition block the beam radiation from reaching the west surface?
P 198. Engineering Reference states that:
"Note however, DElight does not account for interior surface obstructions (e.g., partitions) in this initial interior illuminance/luminance distribution."
Is this the case for beam solar radiation as well? Any thoughts or comments will be appreciated.
Sincerely yours'
Niraj
