my first step is to virtually split the two zones on either side of the floor.

now I have a zone with an adiabatic ceiling

and a zone with an adiabatic floor.

If no heat travels through the adiabatic element, the outside surface of the element must equal that of the inside otherwise energy will travel over the temperature gradient.
