RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] EMS actuator causing fatal error in V8.1

Yes, this is appears to be a bug inadvertently introduced in V8.1.  The calling point BeginTimestepBeforePredictor was moved in the code to alleviate a different problem (persistent timestep lag when setting outdoor node properties).

In Version 8.1 as it is, I am afraid the workaround is going to be to change the EMS code to alter zone setpoints by overriding the schedules used in the thermostat objects rather than by using that actuator.

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] EMS actuator causing fatal error in V8.1

Hi all,

Using release V7.0, I setup a "Zone Temperature Control" actuator with "Cooling Setpoint" as its control type to control the setpoints of a zone with an ILAS (my setpoints change with every timestep and these in turn depend on values in a Schedule:File in case you're wondering why I'm using this actuator in the first place). There were no severe errors or warnings in the results. I've been converting the exact same idf file to work with every new release ever since including V8.0 and was having no problems. However, when converting to V8.1 I got the following fatal error:

** Severe  ** Invalid Actuated Component Type =ZONE TEMPERATURE CONTROL

   **   ~~~   ** Entered in EnergyManagementSystem:Actuator=PDEC_ZN_SP

   **   ~~~   ** Component Type not found

**   ~~~   ** Review .edd file for valid component types.

** Severe  ** Invalid Actuated Component Unique Name =PDEC

   **   ~~~   ** Entered in EnergyManagementSystem:Actuator=PDEC_ZN_SP

**   ~~~   ** Component Unique key name not found

**   ~~~   ** Review edd file for valid component names.

** Severe  ** Invalid Actuated Component Control Type =COOLING SETPOINT

   **   ~~~   ** Entered in EnergyManagementSystem:Actuator=PDEC_ZN_SP

   **   ~~~   ** Control Type not found

**   ~~~   ** Review edd file for valid component control types.

**  Fatal  ** Errors found in processing Energy Management System input. Preceding condition causes termination.

...Summary of Errors that led to program termination:

   ..... Reference severe error count=3

..... Last severe error=Invalid Actuated Component Control Type =COOLING SETPOINT

************* Warning:  Node connection errors not checked - most system input has not been read (see previous warning).

************* Fatal error -- final processing.  Program exited before simulations began.  See previous error messages.

************* EnergyPlus Sizing Error Summary. During Sizing: 0 Warning; 0 Severe Errors.

   ************* EnergyPlus Terminated--Fatal Error Detected. 0 Warning; 3 Severe Errors; Elapsed Time=00hr 00min  1.48sec

I've checked the "Addressed Issues" of release V8.1 to see whether this actuator has been renamed or replaced but found neither to be the case.

Is this a Bug in V8.1 or am I missing something here?

Your help is much appreciated.
