I have the same installed and do not have your issue. Have you tried using the create a new space icon to see if it does the same thing as creating a new zone.

While not as convenient, you should be able to get to the same command by going to Plugins, Legacy OpenStudio, New Zone Tool from the menu.

If none of these work, I would try uninstalling, re-download the Plugin and re-install.
