Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Minimum Venting Open Factor in AirflowNetwork:Multizone:Zone

E+ is first and foremost an energy modelling program. In the past we were only considering the yearly energy impact of the penetrating outside air from windows...this trend is changing, because user comfort is also entering the equation (doh!)...yes it does come as a supprise that buildings are for people...

So anyway, you can use these controls at surface or zone level. If you model more than one window for a large open plan office, perhaps one small window far in the corner is always partially open or "tipped". This allows you to set that minimum. Also, if combined with the venting availibility schedule which will definately shut windows when 0, you could use the setting to approximate double function windows (swing and tip).

Hi all,

I have a theoretical question to ask about Minimum Venting Open Factor used in AirflowNetwork:Multizone:Zone.

I don't understand exactly why this parameter consider that, even if a window should be closed, there a minimum open factor anyway.

I hope my question is clear. Does it simulate that windows are opened for a defined period of time?

Example, considering an availability of windows OF modulation comtrol of 24h/24h, if this parameter is set to 0.04 could it simulate approximately and conceptually that windows are opened for the 1.2% of the time?

(windows open with OF=1 for 0.288 hours (1.2% of total time) == OF=0.04 for 24hours).

They are not the same because of the different temporal dimension of the problem (climatic data changes during the 24 hours, and so the effects can't not be the same) but...
