Hi Ipek,
You can "limit the RunPeriod to only one day per season, 4 in total" by populating the RunPeriod object for the specific dates that you are interested in.
At the following example, I have simulated only 4 days (12/21-winter solstice, 3/20-spring equinox, 6/20-summer solstice, 9/21-autumn equinox).
RunPeriod,
datarun1, !- Name
12, !- Begin Month -winter solstice date-
21, !- Begin Day of Month
12, !- End Month
21, !- End Day of Month
UseWeatherFile,!- Day of Week for Start Day
No, !- Use Weather File Holidays and Special Days
No, !- Use Weather File Daylight Saving Period
Yes, !- Apply Weekend Holiday Rule
Yes, !- Use Weather File Rain Indicators
Yes; !- Use Weather File Snow Indicators
RunPeriod,
datarun2, !- Name
3, !- Begin Month -spring equinox date-
20, !- Begin Day of Month
3, !- End Month
20, !- End Day of Month
UseWeatherFile,!- Day of Week for Start Day
No, !- Use Weather File Holidays and Special Days
No, !- Use Weather File Daylight Saving Period
Yes, !- Apply Weekend Holiday Rule
Yes, !- Use Weather File Rain Indicators
Yes; !- Use Weather File Snow Indicators
RunPeriod,
datarun3, !- Name
6, !- Begin Month -summer solstice date-
20, !- Begin Day of Month
6, !- End Month
20, !- End Day of Month
UseWeatherFile,!- Day of Week for Start Day
No, !- Use Weather File Holidays and Special Days
No, !- Use Weather File Daylight Saving Period
Yes, !- Apply Weekend Holiday Rule
Yes, !- Use Weather File Rain Indicators
Yes; !- Use Weather File Snow Indicators
RunPeriod,
datarun4, !- Name
9, !- Begin Month -autumn equinox date-
21, !- Begin Day of Month
9, !- End Month
21, !- End Day of Month
UseWeatherFile,!- Day of Week for Start Day
No, !- Use Weather File Holidays and Special Days
No, !- Use Weather File Daylight Saving Period
Yes, !- Apply Weekend Holiday Rule
Yes, !- Use Weather File Rain Indicators
Yes; !- Use Weather File Snow Indicators
Best,
Alex

- You could choose the monthly design days for your location.
- Not perhaps typical but representative.

- Hi,
- I am doing a comparative study that compares a number of buildings
with varying window sizes. I would like to reduce the computation time by
limiting the RunPeriod to only one day per season, 4 in total. what is
the best way to select these days? I am also calculating daylighting, so
any random day runs the risk of being not representative of the whole
season. for example a selected day can be an exceptionally sunny day in
cold winter. any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
- Ipek
