Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Acceptable COP

"Rated" CoP is a misleading performance measure. The machine only has this CoP at the "Rated" conditions at which the test took place. That is why a standard like ASHRAE 90.1 also specifies the IPLV or SEER as a "part-load" rating value together with the CoP. This part-load ratio is at least trying to show how the machine performs at more typical running conditions. It is actually a sort of weighted average which they (AHRI) came up with which looks at how many "typical" hours a machine will spend at different load conditions over the year. This is also a limited performance metric, but is far better than showing only one rating point.

As to your question: you will find minimum performance requirements for these performance metrics for different types of cooling machines. You can't compare a small unit to a big one or one type to another and say good or bad. The chosen equipment should be fit for purpose. The 2007 standard was available online (now closed). But you will find older ones as well like 2004.

hi all ,

I wanted to ask what is the usual range of COP for an air conditioning system . I know it varies with everything but by experience what is COP of a normal air conditioning system with return and a normal doas system of 100% fresh air ?
