Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Grate as solar protecti on

Jim,

It's a stationary grate, placed in front/above a 2 storey building under an angle of 45 degrees. It's 50% photovoltaic and 50% grate (solar protection)

The grate is thin (approx 40mm).

I was thinking about the transmission schedule also, but no clue how to calculate a mean transmission for every month.....

Geert,
I don't know what you mean because I do not understand how this grate might be installed. Is it movable or stationary? How thin?

Assuming stationary, perhaps the transmittance schedule could be created to reflect the approximate net transmittance each month?

Jim,

what about the grate angle when tilting the component block ?

Geert,
How about making a DesignBuilder component block (Shading:Site:Detailed) with non-zero transmittance that corresponds to the grate's open area?

Has anyone experiance with modelling a grate (typical 44x44 mm) used as solar protection?

I have a client who wants to use such a grate under 45° to protect his building from the sun.

I could draw the grate in Designbuilder, but the dimensions are to small and the total surface is to large.

Is there a way to model such a solar protection in an alternative way?

Geert
