Actually, the optimal handling of the number of facets for curved surfaces in any simulation program is not always obvious. When this becomes an issue is when
these surfaces are windows and/or they are shaded. Otherwise, if the surfaces are opaque is less of an issue.
Advice on this can be found in ASHRAE Research Project 1468, either in the paper:

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to draw curved surfaces in EnergyPlus? I am trying to draw curved overhangs but there (Shading:Zone:Detailed) I
can only give co-ordinates for the vertices. Please help.
