[Bldg-sim] Correction Re: WEATHER DATA: White Box Technologies releases 2016 weather data for 8, 140 locations worldwide and other weather products

Sorry, there was a mistake on the last link of the previous announcement.  The working link for information on ASHRAE IWEC2 weather files is http://weather.whiteboxtechnologies.com/ashrae .

White Box Technologies (WBT) has now made available 2016 weather files down through Oct 27 for 8,140 locations around the world (2110 US, 275 Canadian, 5755 international). After the end of  year, these 2016 weather files will be updated at no additonal cost. Added to the weather files previously generated going back to 2001, the WBT Weather web site now contains 16-year time series of hourly weather for 6,500 locations, and shorter time series for another 3,500 locations, or over 130,000 weather files in all.    WBT can also create "typical year" weather files for any of these locations, although one should check first whether there's an existing TMY3/CN2014 for a US or Canadian location, or a IWEC2 file for an international location.

Please go here  for a list of all 2016 files for US and Canada or here for a list of all 2016 files for international locations. To search for a weather file on the WBT Weather web site, please go here and use either the "Search by List" or the "Search by Google Maps" options.

In addition to the regular update of current year weather files, the following weather products have been introduced over the past 14 months:

1.      MX2015 is a set of "typical year" weather files for 119 Mexican locations based on 16 years of historical weather from 2001-2015, with satellite-derived solar radiation.

2.      CN2014 was introduced in Oct 2015 and contains "typical year" weather files for 224 Canadian locations. They are based on 15 years of historical weather from 2000-2014, and thus 25 years more recent than the CWEC2, which used data ending in 1989. These will also be upgraded with satellite-derived solar radiation in 2017.

3.      ISHRAE2  is a set of "typical year" weather files for 62 Indian locations. These weather files were developed by WBT for ISHRAE in 2014 utilizing weather data from various sources in India and the US. The ISHRAE2 files are free in accordance to an agreement with the Indian government.

4.      Custom TYP "typical year" weather files for 117 locations not covered in other weather data sets. These were done on demand for the past 5 years and  generally cover  underserved regions of the world, such as Latin America and Subsaharan Africa, and a few odd places in the US.  For a list of these TYP files, please go here .

The following features and products have been previously announced but repeated here for new viewers:

5.      Of special interest to eQUEST users, a feature was added in 2014 allowing users to create composite weather file combining data from two consecutive years but running from Jan. 1 of one year to Dec.31 of the preceding year. This is very handy when doing simulations for a project period that extends over two calendar years (see this memo for details).

6.      Of special interest to EnergyPlus users, all WBT weather files are now provided with Design Day files (*.DDY), either from the 2013 ASHRAE Handbook of Fundamentals (HOF), or calculated from the historical record of that weather station. This second method is increasingly important, as the number of WBT weather stations is now 40% larger than the HOF, and also shows how design conditions can change over time.

7.      ASHRAE IWEC2 (International Weather for Energy Calculations) is a large set of “typical year” weather files for 3,012 international locations outside of the USA and Canada. IWEC2 weather files were developed in a 4-year project utilizing actual reports from thousands of weather stations around the world going back 25 years.  IWEC2 weather files can be purchased either for individual locations, country  and region sets, or even the entire collection. For a complete list of all IWEC2 stations, see here.  For more information, please go hereIWEC2 files will soon also available from IES-VE and CYPE in early 2017.
