Simergy Standard -- includes all the basic functionality to create and simulate a building energy model (BEM). It is used by thousands of students, researchers, and people not yet doing building energy modeling professionally.
Simergy Professional -- adds dozens of additional features for the professional user ? including â??DWG Model-Ovverâ?? and import of Building Information Models (BIM) exported from design applications including Revit®, ArchiCAD®, Bentley Architecture®, Allplan®, and Vectorworks®. This dramatically reduces your time to create an accurate BEM. It is used by hundreds of building industry professionals.
Simergy Training Course Description
Simergy 101 ? How to Create Building Energy Models in Record Time
This Simergy training course consists of 8 lessons spanning 3 sessions of 2 hours each (6 hours total). Participants will become familiar with the basic functionality in Simergy, but will also see an overview of several more advanced features. In the 1st lesson participants will learn how to create design alternatives, define the building and its context on site, and how to define and run a simulation in Simergy. Lesson 2 will enable users to do load calculations including the definition of internal loads and zone thermostats. Lessons 3 and 4 focus on HVAC systems such as air and water loops. In addition to demonstrating the flexibility of HVAC in Simergy, these lessons will introduce participants to standard reports and the powerful results visualization workspace. Both are important to understanding simulation results and will enable the user to dive into the details of EnergyPlus simulations. In lesson 5 a number of energy-saving improvements will be made to the test building model(s). We will also take a deeper look into the use of libraries and students will learn how to add and modify entries in those libraries. Lesson 6 is focused on energy efficiency improvements to the HVAC systems in the test building models, as well as how to create and re-use HVAC templates. Lesson 7 takes a break from continuous improvement of the test buildings to demonstrate other ways in which building model geometry can be created in Simergy. This includes import of IDF, IFC, and gbXML, as well as creation of 3D building models by tracing over 2D DWG drawings. Finally, the last lesson returns to more advanced energy efficiency improvements through a number of different HVAC systems. The course format for each session will be 60-90 minute lectures/demonstrations, followed by a walk-thru of student exercises and questions. Detailed handouts for these exercises will be provided to encourage students to complete them between sessions. Completion of the exercises will strengthen the studentâ??s understanding and comfort with both Simergy and EnergyPlus.

About the Instructor ? TTobias Maile (Ph.D.) is one of the development and consulting leads at Digital Alchemy. He completed his PhD dissertation at Stanford University ? in Civil and Ennvironmental Engineering. His PhD knowledge innovation focused on methods for comparing simulated and measured building energy performance data. He also holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Stuttgart. Over the past several years, Tobias has developed countless building energy models and co-developed numerous software applications (including Simergy!) centered on predicting building performance using building models.
