RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] RE: EnergyPlus - DOAS, radiant infloor heating and PTAC

Thank you Javed!

I haven’t reviewed the file yet. That is my weekend project.

Hello Chris,

here you find one zone sample model with a DOAS (with heating Coil, HX)+ Radiant heating (served by Boiler)+ PTAC system. This will give you fair idea about equipment and Branch connections. I am not sure how your design varies from this arrangement such as heat recovery, preheat coil etc. But it's worth checking the temperature set point in your model in order to make it aligned with the design model. I have done some quality checks on each node to check if set-point manager works fine. I have used San Francisco weather file to do some more sanity checks.

P.S It took me roughly 60 mins to make some modifications in the example files to develop this sample model including basic quality checks.

Hope this helps!!

Thank you very much. I am not so worried about adding the PTACs cooling only but I am worried about removing the underfloor radiant cooling chiller, loop, branches, coils, splitters, ettc. The “merged” system would be DOAS Underfloor heating and PTAC cooling.

As a pointer for you, the PTAC system is a zone system so I would use the DOAS with radiant floor as your base file and add in the PTAC (also radiant floor files have all sorts of extras in them to do with surfaces and all sorts so this really should be your base file). You can add it in directly, just make sure you take all the components associated with the PTAC. ALL the components, that is the PTAC, the hot and cold coils, the fans, the branches, the outdoor air mixer, outdoor air equipment list, go all the way down and make sure you pick up everything

The gotchas will be at Equipment list and equipment connections. You can only have one equipment list and one equipment connections per zone.

Equipment List: You will have to add PTACs to your existing equipment lists.

Equipment Connections: you need add the exhaust node you have in the PTAC file to the existing equipment connections for the correct zones. You will need to make a nodelist (a separate object) for each zone that has a PTAC and a DOAS connection and in this list put the two node names that are in the inlet node in the equipment connection objects. Then add this new nodelist name to your node connections

Depending on whether the PTAC has hot and cold water coils means you will need to add these onto the branchlist, the splitter and the connector (essentially adding them into the chiller and boiler loops)

And that should do it. Happy to help some more if you get stuck

Annie

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] EnergyPlus - DOAS, radiant infloor heating and PTAC

Hello,

I am looking for an example .idf DOAS, radiiant infloor heating and packaged terminal air conditioners.

I have two models of my small building:

DOAS radiant infloor heating and cooling

DOAS PTAC with ssupplemental hydronic heating.

I would like to “merge” these two files to end up with DOAS radiant innfloor heating and PTAC. It seems to me like that could be a lot of “gotchas” trying to revise the two files I have next to no experience editing EnergyPPlus file directly.

Any pointers? Anyone feel like looking at my two .idf files in order to offer hints?
