I was assuming that the deciduous trees were being modeled using a pre-made or EMS object, in which case there would be some accounting of the wind-shielding as well as the shading effects of trees. I also can't think of any other reason why the room air temperatures would be higher in the winter with trees, deciduous or not. When I was modeling the effect of trees using DOE-2 as part of an Urban Heat Island study more than 30 years ago, I changed the wind speed using a User Function but did not consider the wind direction (clearly a north wind would be unaffected by placing trees in front of a south facade :-) ). Hopefully, there have been some improvement in the modeling over 30 years.
