Hi
I am trying model IDEC (Indirect Direct Evaporative Cooling) with DX and
Heat Pipe (Sensible HX). Has anyone modeled this before? Can you please help
me; my building energy performance seems to be not affected. Please see
figure below. If you don't see figure, here is the system description. The
supply stream has DX cooling coil, Direct Evaporative Cooler and a Supply
Fan. The Return Air Stream has Water Spray Nozzles with a Heat Pipe (Water
is Sprayed on pipe common to return and supply air stream for sensible heat
transfer), Mist Eliminator, Exhaust Fan, DX Condenser. I am having problem
to model this.
Thank you in advance.

Hi All,
I'm wondering if anyone has any pearls of wisdom for setting up an add-on
desiccant in eQuest. The program gives very little control as to how the
desiccant is used. I am trying to model a desiccant dehumidification system
for a pool. However, the add-on desiccant seems to only operate to
condition outdoor air. Also, in the summary report "SUPL Evap/Desiccant
Cooling for..." there are some negative numbers under the "SENSIBLE COOLING
ENERGY (MBTU)" column. This seems backwards to me.
Any input is appreciated!
Thanks,

Karen

I'm happy to look at your inp file, but I can't open it with eQuest. My
initial guess is that you have a pilot on all summer, or that your boiler is
cycling at an inefficient part load ratio in response to small demands.

Yes, where is your weather file?
My guess is, your chilled air stream needs to be mixed with heated air to
raise it to a proper zone temperature.

I looked at your .inp file - with a multizone system, you have the
heating coil of the dual duct scenario running all the time - it doesn't
look like you can set the minimum flow rate thru this coil to 0, which
means theoretically there is always a heating load, and perhaps the
boiler is running constantly during FAN ON conditions. Just a guess.
Also, you have the heating and cooling setpoints at the same temp (68
degrees). From my experience, you don't want to do this...it may cause
unexpected problems, especially when you are talking about multiple
thermostats controlling a complicated dual duct system.
