[Equest-users] Ground Source heat pumps (pump Energy)

Charles, 

 

Every time I've modeled a ground source heat exchanger, I've for one
reason or another ended up manually entering pump power/flow parameters.


 

This may or may not apply to you, but I would advise against using
eQuest as a means of sizing a well field.  

 

My general approach is... There are free & for-pay software options out
there (GS2000 is a free one) better suited to this task.  Such programs
(or whoever may have already designed your well field) can provide
annual loop temperature behavior, which you can turn into a lake/well
GLHX temperature schedule for properly modeling energy behavior in
eQuest.  More on this procedure is in the archives.  After this, I
manually input loop/pump flow and power properties.

That actually makes my pumping power go up due to moving more water.

I have created a ground source heat pump system and my pumps and
auxiliary energy is coming out almost as high as my ventilation fan
energy.  Is this normal?  This just seems a little high to me.
