for your perusal regarding underground walls... 

 

That said, see discussion/illustration copied below from [equest-users]
legend Bill Bishop.  Don't miss James's commentary though - oftentimes
it's simpler to approach the problem with simplified rectangular areas.

 

I would personally not create separate shells.

 

You might also look up a visual mini-guide I've posted twice on how to
make an exterior surface an interior one.  That covers some fundamentals
of detailed editing that you might need to feel comfy tackling Bill's
advice below.

I have a project where the building is on a slope (one level building)
so there is a varying height of below and above grade exterior wall
area.  I have a few ideas on how to do this, but thought I'd throw it
out to the group hoping someone has done this and would want to share
their method.  Not only is it sloping, but then on the uphill side there
is a cutaway so there is an entrance with windows.  I am thinking of
making multiple shells with each touching, and break it into a couple of
different areas with the equivalent amount of above and below grade, and
just making it a horizontal division (above and below shell).  It seems
like I'll need at least 5 shells to split it into 3 areas, one with
fully above grade walls, then two partially below grade and each of
those will need two shells stacked (one above and one below).  Maybe I
can do it even simpler with just two shells stacked with the equivalent
amount of above grade in the top shell and equivalent below grade in the
bottom.  This doesn't seem too convoluted, and hopefully it isn't or
there is a better way.

Hello all,

 

  I am designing a building that is built on top of a slope or incline
grade, so part of the basement's exterior walls are exposed the ambient
conditions and part of it is underground.  In Equest how do you input
the area that basement of the building is being covered by the earth to
simulate this incline surface?  Attached is a simplified drawing that
illustrates what Im describing.

Keep in mind that there is really no benefit to modeling a triangular
wall if it is easier to setup standard rectangular walls with matching
areas.  This is obviously assuming you're only talking about one space,
there are no tall windows that you have to fit at the fully exposed
portion of the wall, etc.

Chris,

 

You need to create a new polygon with the same width (x) and height (y)
of the existing wall. The new polygon will only have three vertices
instead of four. Create a second wall, using the same location as the
first wall (such as "V1 of Space Polygon") and using the new polygon.
Create another new polygon for the opposite triangle and apply that to
the existing wall.

How would one setup a partially underground wall.  For example, the 

spaces in question have two wall types on one face - a portion is 

underground and a portion is above.  These are two different wall 

types and the grade slopes along the wall so the two walls are 

trapezoidal in shape.
