[Equest-users] Create Floor and Space in Detailed Mode

Hi DE!

Sounds like you found the specific solution in this case, but it would
probably help to better understand how to evaluate the problem for the
future:

"Standard writing file errors" are something you'll generally encounter
on trying to either run a simulation (calculate) or open the file.
That's the program generically telling you something is off in BDL...
and this is commonly either a missing input or missing association (easy
occurrence when creating a dummy zone or otherwise deleting/creating
things in detailed mode)... For example: Have you created a zone for
the dummy space and assigned it to the single dummy space? Not doing so
will result in (1) standard writing error.

The phrase "standard writing file error" is of course itself not
intuitive or particularly helpful. Errors are hard to evaluate without
having the files on-hand, which is why others will sometimes ask you to
upload... but better to teach a man to fish!

To investigate most errors that prevent a simulation from completing:
open the project directory, then locate and open your .BDL file in
notepad or another text editor. Ctrl+F to find the word "ERROR" and you
will identify where in your file the error occurred (usually a strong
clue in and of itself), and often a textual description of what was
expected and missing or similar clues to give a better sense of the
problem to be resolved.

The button that looks like a little building with a checkmark up next
to the yellow calculator may be a more user-friendly means of exploring
your BDL errors as you run into them as well, but I tend to forget it's
there and only use it when it occasionally pops up on its own. With
that dialog you can sometimes be "navigated" to where the problem must
be fixed in the eQuest interface.

~Nick

PS: The first popup warning you saw on creating a floor about default
data is just fluff... fill in the blank fields for width/depth/etc. in
the following prompt and it won't show up again. You may see similar
"cautionary" pop-ups when creating select other items in detailed. I'm
guessing this is just a sign that there isn't any library default entry
for new floor dimensions.

Nevermind, I didn't see the message that your issue was resolved. Glad
you figured it out.

If you want to attach the .inp and .pd2 files, I will take a quick look
at them.

Kelsey,

The thing is, I 've tried that too. I still got the "standard file
writing errors" when I hit the run button.

That did not happen to anyone?

Thank you.

You do not need to create a new floor. Just create the new space as a
child of one of the existing floors.

Subject: [Equest-users] Create Floor and Space in Detailed Mode

HI all!

I really need your help here.

I 've been trying to create Dummy zone for my DOAS system in Detailed
Mode.

First, I create "Floor" then its child "Space" whose area is same as the
zone served by the DOAS. I used 'Box' method.

However, an error massage that says "Unable to locate default data for
Command=FLOOR,Type=0, Keyword=WIDTH" keeps popting up, followed by

"standard file writing errors. "

How can I fix this problem?

Thank you in advance!

~DE
