[Equest-users] Heat Recovery question

Paul,

If you right-click and select "Edit/View User Default" it shows values
for four of the five ERV types. For heat pipes, there is no default
value, so you need to pull one out of your, um, hat.

I have the same question as Bill Lafley.

Once you enter the type of ERV, the eQuest defaults disappear. The
program then asks for the inputs.

Bill,

I would just use the eQUEST defaults for whichever ERV-RECOVER-TYPE is
applicable. The variables I would focus on are the sensible, and if
appropriate, latent effectiveness, as well as the ERV-OA-FLOW and
ERV-EXH-FLOW. The effectiveness and/or efficiency are provided by the
HRV/ERV manufacturer. Note that "efficiency" and "effectiveness" mean
different things, and if you enter the efficiency in eQUEST instead of
sensible/latent effectiveness you will underestimate the energy savings.
See HVI (Home Ventilation Institute), Section 3, page two:

http://www.hvi.org/resourcelibrary/proddirectory.html

The manufacturer might have values for the air film resistance fraction
and exponent, but don't count on it. These values modify the
effectiveness based on hourly OA and exhaust airflows, so they won't
even matter unless the hourly airflows through the ERV/HRV change
significantly.

Regards,

Bill

Hello,

Can someone tell me where I get the following values and/or what are

reasonable numbers for these inputs? "HX Air Film Resist." and "Air

Film Resist Exp."

Thanks,
