[Equest-users] Ice Storage: Equipment controls and Load management

I have been looking through the DOE2 help and have been trying to utilize the following information that I found. However, when I try to replicate the input information below, some of the inputs aren't available (see highlighted text below for the missing inputs in the Equest screens). When I try to sequence the thermal storage tank as the cooling device in the Equipment Controls, the only available options are chillers. The thermal storage tank isn't available. Do I need to do something at the tank level to make it available in the Equipment Controls?

To use the tank only between the hours of 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., a LOAD-MANAGEMENT sequence must be used:
USE-TES-DAY = DAY-SCHEDULE
TYPE               = FLAG
                     ( 1,13) (1.)
                     (13,17) (2.)
                     (18,24) (1.)  ..
USE-TES-WEEK = WEEK-SCHEDULE
TYPE               = FLAG
                     (ALL) USE-TES-DAY  ..
USE-TES-SCH = SCHEDULE
TYPE               = FLAG
THRU DEC 31          USE-TES-WEEK  ..
USE-CHILLER = EQUIP-CTRL
TYPE               = COOLING
CIRCULATION-LOOP   = COOLING-LOOP

CHILLERS-1         = (CHILLER-1)
..
USE-TES = EQUIP-CTRL
TYPE               = COOLING
CIRCULATION-LOOP   = COOLING-LOOP

CHILLERS-1         = (CHILLER-1)
CHILLERS-SEQ-1     = (        2)          chiller second
STORE-SEQ-1        = (        1)          tank first
..
COOL-CTRL = LOAD-MANAGEMENT
TYPE               = SCHEDULED
EQUIP-CTRL-SCH     = USE-TES-SCH

CTRL-FLAG-1        = 1.0
EQUIP-CTRL-1       = (USE-CHILLER)

CTRL-FLAG-2        = 2.0
EQUIP-CTRL-2       = (USE-TES)
CTRL-PRIORITY-2    = 10.

Hi Kristy,

There is a ton of information that you can access 2 ways: by going into the folders you downloaded or by searching for it online, say at the DOE2 Website: both equally good.

The trick is this case is to be sure you are looking in the DOE2 manual, not the eQUEST manual.

Try this and let me know if you still can' find it.

Cheers,

Carol

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience using the Equipment Controls and Load Management functions in Equest? I'm trying to set up an ice storage plant and previous equest forum posts suggested that I utilize these tools to run the chillers at the right time of day. My energy consumption, notably my pumping energy, goes WAY up when I try to utilize these settings, so I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

If anyone has successfully used Equest to analyze ice storage as an energy cost saving measure, can you run through your process? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for the help!
