[Equest-users] What's the meaning of the "packaged" in the aircondition system?

Joey,

The term packaged refers to a unit where all of the components: fan,
compressor, coils, controls, etc., are in one enclosure, or "package." The
typical example would be a rooftop unit where all of these components are
contained in one cabinet. A different type is a "split" system where the
condensing unit and compressor is separate from the air handling unit which
contains the fan, filters and coils and the two are connected by refrigerant
lines. These are most common in residential and small commercial systems
(i.e. 5 tons or less).

You can also have a packaged unit with hydronic coils connected to a chiller
and/or boiler.

I hope this helps -

Subject: [Equest-users] What's the meaning of the "packaged" in the
aircondition system?

Hi, everyone:

This is a question puzzled me for a long time, what's the meaning of
"packaged" in the air condition system?

ASHRAE 90.1 appendix G shows 8 types of the different HVAC systems in the
table G 3.1.1 B(see the illustration below), but I can't make the difference
between the 8th form others.

What should I do in the simulation if a HVAC system is "packaged"? And what
about the "unpackaged" ? You can see that this is the only different
between item 7 & 8 .

Anyone who kindly gives tips will be appreciated.

Best wishes from Joey in China.
