[Equest-users] 3-D Geometry Lost

Good evening Everyone,

The following procedure usually solves the problem without fooling with the
.pd2 file:

Create a brand new project in the wizard. It does not matter what the new
project looks like or what info is in it. The new project can be all
defaults!!! Just MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT WEATHER FILE!!! Once the
wizard has created the new project, change the project from wizard mode to
detailed mode. Save the project with a new name. Close the project.

In Windows Explorer, open the .inp file for the project which has lost the
3D view in Wordpad. Under the Edit tab, Select all and copy. Then open the
newly created .inp file as a text file also in Wordpad , select all, and
paste the original project data into the newly created .inp file; i.e.
overwrite the entire file. Save the .inp file. Close, then open the new file
in eQuest. The 3D picture should be there.

For future prevention:

The main issue which results in a lost 3D usually occurs in large projects
when a lot of editing is taking place. I am not exactly sure why, but I
think it occurs when the RAM is used up. eQuest will use every bit of RAM
available on your computer!!! As a result, I make a habit of SAVING every 5
minutes in large projects, and rebooting every hour or so. If the 3D picture
disappears, IMMEDIATELY close eQuest WITHOUT SAVING! If you save, you will
lose the 3D. If you have not saved, reboot your computer, reopen the
project, and the 3D is usually there, but you will have lost any edits made
since the last save. It’s a toss-up: either save the 3D or save the most
recent edits

Good luck and have a nice evening.

Want to try something new, and possibly a little dangerous?

(that’s one way of saying save a separate copy of the project before
proceeding)

If you have a copy of the project files where the 3D view is still working,
you could try opening that file up, navigating to the (working) 3D view,
then double click the top item of the component tree to view these “camera”
view details:

Keeping this window open for reference, open the .pd2 file of the “problem”
project in notepad (keep a separate copy!), and try editing the 6
consecutive lines in the beginning section which specify the view
properties:

After editing to match, save, close, cross your fingers, and try opening
with eQuest
  Good luck!

If all else fails, our forefathers in energy modeling got by without
fancy-schmancy 3D visuals, walked uphill both ways to school and liked it
too (or so I gather)!

Mildly interesting: I’m finding with a little toying around here that you
can effect new 3D views that wouldn’t otherwise be possible with the rotate
and zoom features by messing with these pd2 values
 mostly with confusing or
less-than-practical results however so far

No, I still can’t see the 3D. it is appearing like this after make a
simulation and right click and try to reset camera.

Juan,

Try right clicking and select “Reset Camera.” Then click on one of the other
tabs of the program (Internal Loads, Water-Side HVAC, etc.), then go back to
your Building Shell. Your 3D geometry should reappear.

Hope this helps!

Dear All

I was working on a multifamily high rise building and suddenly the 3-D
Geometry disappear, I don-t know where to find it.

Do you know how to solve this?

I open other projects and the geometry is still there.
