[Equest-users] Free cooling Chiller on eQuest

I have repeatedly found this "all or nothing" approach to waterside economizers (as further explained in the help files) to be frustrating when evaluating the performance effects of integrated waterside economizers. Ultimately I consider eQuest deficient in this regard - there must be better tools for the job.

When you do utilize a WSE tower in eQuest, the simulation represents a "non-integrated" installation (only operating when the chiller can't keep up), and you won't be able to observe or evaluate the benefits from the effects of pre-cooling the water and thus saving energy for the entire CHW plant. My perception is that for many projects, there's a good chunk of "partially free cooling" that can occur for many climates/projects with integrated setups, but I don't know of any clever way to trick eQuest into modeling that.

Does anyone have any aces up their sleeves to model partial free tower cooling?

I think this is tangent to the original thread - but just thought this is a good opportunity to ask that question!

You cannot set that with range and approach. eQUEST calculates if the tower can carry the loop load for each timestep and if it can, the WSE is used. Otherwise the chiller is engaged.
