[Trace-users] Revit Export and import into Trace (Bob Vogt)

I have been playing with Revit to Trace and back today. As long as you
are using Revit MEP 2010 it may be worth the time. You need a good arch
model to start with. If there are a lot of interior voids you will have
a lot of walls that are not really their. There is a good white paper
out that helps in understanding.

Before I go much further, is this a complex job or relatively small? If
you still need help I may be able to assist.

I know it's possible, but how practical is it to export a file from
Revit and import it into Trace 700 for calculations? AND, how do you do
it?

Hi Jason,

In my opinion you can never really assume that all of the export
information that you extract from Revit is going to directly import into
Trace without you having to "tweak" things after you import it. In
order to do it, you basically have to export your infomation to a gbXML
file. Once you save that somewhere, you then import it into Trace as a
gbXML file and it should ask you what information you actually want to
import.

I don't know if this helps you, but this has been my experience.

Revit: export gbXML
Trace: File/Import gbXML

I've imported files to see how it does, but I haven't actually used it
yet.
It seems to ignore exterior shading, which is the main thing I was
hoping to get from it.

One of my problems is getting it to recognize the room names so I can
distinguish which room is which when it's imported into Trace. It just
names it from 1 to whatever. How do I get it to recognize the names
from the revit file?

There are a couple changes for TRACE with respect to gbXML. In version
6.2.2 and later, you have the ability to use the Name entered in Revit
as the space name in the TRACE file.

TRACE does not import external shading.
