[TRNSYS-users] jEPlus for TRNSYS parametrics

Dear Stefano/Saleh,
Sorry I don't recall if I responded to Saleh's earlier question or not... Since I am not a TRNSYS user, José can correct me if I get anything wrong.
jEPlus searches the specified search tags in the main .DCK or .TRD files, as well as in any external files loaded by an INCLUDE or an ASSIGN command. I don't know about the .BUI files; but if they are loaded in the main .DCK file, you should be able to have parameters in them. To edit a file other than the main .DCK, you will need to use a text editor...
To the second question, jEPlus processes output files in CSV format only. Your model needs to write output in a .csv using the right printer, and you tell jEPlus the files you want it to collect in the "output file name(s)" field (I am renaming it to "printer file name(s)"). So "trnsysout.csv" should be a printer name you have in your .DCK model.
We are still working on the TRNSYS part of the users manual. It should be ready in a few days' time.
Cheers,
Yi

Dear all,
Any news concerning the use of jeplus for parametric changes in the *.bui (and not just in the *.dck) of a trnsys project?
Thanks a lot
Best regards
Stefano

Dear Dr Zhang,
Thanks for doing this great job!!!.
I used the template file provided with GenOpt (folder is attached).
I tried using this version with TRNSYS 16 and works pretty well and quick (24 parametric runs in less than a minute). Is it possible to add a browsing tab to edit the building file (*.bui).
Although, I could run the parametric files but no output was extracted. In my template file, I normally extract output in a text file but jEPlus could not copy the file or save it in any format. Is there a way to save the text file in the folder file similar to input file. In addition, I can't find the "trnsysout.csv" output file anywhere. Is that enabled in this version?
regards,
saleh alsaadi

Hi Bjoern,
I should provide an example TRNSYS parametric project in the package; I will do that in a couple of days. In the meantime, could you take a look at the E+ example? Just open the project in the example/ folder, and you will see how to specify parameters. Unlike E+, the weather file in a TRNSYS model is normal parameter. You just need to create a parameter and think of a search string (e.g. "@@weather@@") to put in the place of the weather file in the .DCK (or .TRD) file, and then specify the alt. values of the parameter using syntax like "{weather1.txt, weather2.txt, ...}".
Here is quick video of how to use jEPlus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=9v8k52IyvV4). Again it is for E+ rather than TRNSYS; but the principle is the same.
Cheers,
Yi

Hi Yi,
I just had a short look at it and did not find an option to vary sets of values, e.g. if I vary a location I need to specify the name of the weather data file, the latitude, shift in solar time and possibly some other values. If there is this option and I did not see it, please ignore my comment.

Hi all,
jEPlus is an open source parametric tool for managing EnergyPlus simulations. Due to popular demand, support for TRNSYS simulations has been added to the latest version (jEPlus v1.3beta). Please visit http://www.iesd.dmu.ac.uk/jeplus/ for more details. Please note we are currently testing the new version; any comments or suggestions will be much appreciated.
