Please check the following webpage (do not be surprised that they were conducted between 1988-1992, their work is the fundamental work for nowadays and future emulator (hardware-in-the-loop)):

 Finland, VTT, Laboratory of Heating and Ventilation, Research Notes 1514, 1993, 134 pp. + app. -------This book describes the method for the communication between TRNSYS (although 1980s-1990s's TRNSYS) and real controller.
