[bldg-sim] Photovoltaics - cost payback

Dear all,

Any pointers to studies on how long it takes for photovoltaics to payback
for the first cost (with or without balance of the system)?

I understand there are many variables involved and there are no straight
answers, but any information regarding one or more than climatic
region/building types will be helpful.
