[EnergyPlus_Support] Hot Water Radiators - Design Builder vs EnergyPlus

Hello Andy

Thank you.
But, if I want to simulate hot water radiators on the wall, what should I choose in the "Zones HVAC tab":

    "Heating Type": Convective (here I can make the Building Simulation)
or
    "Heating Type": Radiant / Convective (like this the simulation speed is too slow)

Another possibilitie is to export the idf file to Energy Plus. What kind of system should I choose here?

Best Regards

A L

Yes for some reason the EnergyPlus 'High Temp Radiant System' used by
DesignBuilder to represent radiant heating systems runs very slowly. We
haven't looked into reasons for this yet. It may be related to using many
'Surface to which radiant energy from heater is distributed' fields.

This is the only radiant heating system provided by DesignBuilder. If the
slow simulation speeds are not acceptable, you could either approximate by
using an air system (many hot water radiators have radiant heat fractions of
less than 0.2) or look at trying with some of the other radiant systems
offered by EnergyPlus by modifying the IDF data generated by DesignBuilder.

One of the reasons for the Slow Simulations is the use of "Radiant Heating
systems".

But if I need the following HVAC system:

Heating: water radiators (all zones);
Cooling: Heat pump + Fan-Coil (only in some zones);

What should be the kind of DESIGN BUILDER HVAC template, at Building level
and at Zone level, that can:

1) solve the simulation speed problem;
2) fullfils the HVAC System requirements;

There is a help topic on setting up DesignBuilder models to minimise
simulation time at:

I am starting to work with Energy Plus (sometimes I use Design Builder as
Graphic Interface), I would like to know the following:

- What are the main things that I should pay attention when I am
constructing the Building Model(on Design Builder), to prevent that the
simulation doesn´t take several hours?

- What should be the better sequence for studying the Manuals of
EnergyPlus?

- What Document (EPlus Manual or file) should I study to learn how to
work well with the IDF Editor?

- What Document (EPlus Manual or file) should I study to learn how to
identify and correct errors, that can appear in the Design Builder Exported
IDF Files?

Best Regards
