[Equest-users] Big question on ASHRAE compliance

Hi Chris,

I am not aware of any state/jurisdiction which has already adopted
90.1-2013 as code, directly or by reference. I’m sure if it is in active
play somewhere, somebody will chime in to update/correct us!

With the understanding that I’m not a part of GBCI/USGBC and do not
represent LEED, here’s what I know:

· LEED v3 (LEED 2009) is based upon 90.1-2007

· LEED v4 is/will be based upon 90.1-2010

· Generally, for the purposes of EAp2/EAc1, you have the option
(and it is often beneficial) to incorporate 90.1 addenda worked into future
90.1 publication years

· The mandatory requirements of 90.1-2013 are in excess of what’s
minimally required with respect to LEED v3

Pretty sure that much is true!

Provided 90.1-2013 standard isn’t locally adopted as an energy code, or by
reference, and compliance isn’t otherwise required of the design contract,
then I can’t fathom why you would be expected to demonstrate such
compliance.

The good news in all this is that your baseline performance is likely to
trend downward if you are pulling it from 2013 back to 2007. Bad news is
you’re probably not as “nearly completed” as you previously thought.

*Subject:* Big question on ASHRAE compliance

I am working with our company’s LEED specialist to do the energy modeling
for a project for LEED-NC 2009 certification.

The energy modeling obviously fulfills the EAp2 minimum energy performance
requirements.

Ever since we’ve started I’ve been using ASHRAE 90.1 (2013 version) because
that’s what he said we needed to match for baselines.

I think he may have been wrong. When I asked him about it he said I was
correct and that 2007 should be the standard.
I’m not confident he knows and I don’t want to move forward unless I know
with certainty.

After doing some research, and with the model nearly completed, I’m
thinking ASHRAE 90.1 (2007) is what we needed to adhere to for
compliance???!

Is there anyone who can verify which version of ASHRAE is the current
standard for applying for LEED-NC 2009 cert?

LEED users website states that 2007 is the current compliance method for
LEED-NC 2009.

If we don’t have to model to the stricter energy modeling standards of 2013
ASHRAE, why would we?

No reason to show the additional compliance if it isn’t required for LEED
cert., am I right?

Thank you!
