At the end of this message is the part load performance of steam turbine
chillers. As you can see from the response from Rob Firnstein of York,
energy software developers can incorporate this data into their
programs.
Steam turbine chillers have recently been specified for buildings in
NYC. ConEd has low summer rates for steam. Cities like Boston,
Minneapolis and Philadelphia also provide district steam. Since
district steam is waste energy from a power plant perhaps there should
be LEED credits for using this waste energy although the ECB method
might show higher costs over electric centrifugal.

Varkie,
Feel free to forward on the information. Recently, York re-designed the
software for selecting our steam turbine chillers so that we now have
greater capability to pair compressors and steam turbines for optimum
performance. If you are interested in seeing any generic selections for
additional chillers please let me know.
