[bldg-sim] Green Building Studio

I try and stay out of the many discussions hosted by this fine site, but
this time I have to join in. I support what John says and what Russ is
trying to accomplish. Over the last year or so I get the feeling that
site is being used to teach people the fundamentals of engineering via a
simulation tool. There is nothing to beat 25 years of experience, unless
of course you just happen to be younger than 30 and you don't listen to
old farts, life sucks. But actually using a simulation to design a
buildings system then actually build the building and its systems, that
is an achievement. Of course the chance of that actually happening is
very remote and that's why when you have been in the industry for more
than 25 it might of actually happened once or twice. We are the sex
appeal of the industry these days as the dreaded LEED points providers,
but all this is irrelevant when it comes down to actually contracting
the designs. How many innovative ideas fall prey to value engineering?

We are heading in the right direction, but it is slow and difficult.

Hello everybody,

After reading some of the posts surrounding this thread, I think we are
missing

the point. Educating the masses. In my opinion, that will be the
single

deciding factor for future generations. As such, ANY way we can educate
will

help. One small step forward is still a step in the correct direction.

Wherever, whatever, whoever...if the word gets out about energy
efficient

buildings then progress is being accomplished.

Just an observation from "the great white north."

Cheers,

Russ
