[bldg-sim] energy use in buildings (also, tool for manipulating text files)

A handy tool in situations like this where you want to sync up different
files is "Compare-It" -- it will let you compare two text files side by
side.
 
This won't work if the naming structure is different for the three
buildings, but if they are named similarly it will highlight differences
in the inputs.
 
You still have all the editing functionality of notepad while using it,
but then you can also copy lines or blocks of lines from one file to the
other.

deserves to be reintroduced to the mailing list periodically!

	I am being faced with a very interesting problem in eQUEST. And
I just can't find a way to explain it. Maybe someone can help?

	 

	I am modeling 3 generic building sizes - small (4300sqM) medium
(7400sqM) large (11300sqM) in three different climates - Hot, cold and
temperate.

	 

	Typically one would expect energy use on a per sq ft basis to go
down as the building goes up in size.

	In this case the annual energy use per sq ft is the highest in
the medium size building, it's the lowest in the large building and is
slightly higher than the large in the small building.

	 

	For instance in the cold climate it is - 

	Small - 70.7 kBtu/SqFt/Yr

	Medium - 85.8 kBtu/Sqft/yr

	Large - 68.2 kBtu/sqft/yr

	 

	All parameters in all the three buildings are same, and the
buildings are similar in design. The medium size building adds a storey
to convert to a large building and drops a storey to convert to a small
building. Then entire design is very generic.

	 

	Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this could be
happening?

	 

	Also when I look at the BEPS report - I notice that in absolute
terms, the space cooling energy is higher in the medium building than
the large, which is really not possible! 

	 

	Can anyone help?
