Brian,
PV Watts assumes several variables which are constant. I am also a rep for PowerLight, who has installed the largest solar systems in the world, out of Berkeley, California. PowerLight uses their own simulation program based originally on PV Watts but more detailed to more accurately predict solar performance. Their estimated energy output is also usually lower than PV Watts predicted values since they often have to guarantee performance over 20+ years. We also do have a solar specialist in house who writes his own hourly simulation programs for solar, wind and distributed generation systems.

Subject: [bldg-sim] photovoltaic output in DOE-2 and PV Watts

I am simulating a 28.1 kW array in DOE-2 (eQuest 3.6) and in PV Watts. The array is flat, on a rooftop with 150 Sanyo 195 modules, and 6 PVPowered 4800W inverters.

DOE-2 gives results with 20,600 kWh annual AC production using the standard model methodology.

PV Watts gives about 25,000 kWh annual AC production. Solar designers in Portland support this higher value from actual building results.

Can anyone share experience with DOE-2 modeled PV output vs. PV Watts, or offer any suggestions on variables of primary concern in the DOE-2 input?

If anyone is truly expert on modeling solar PV in DOE-2, and can validate results with other calculation tools, I would be interested in hiring you for some limited consulting.
